Where to have a cocktail in Marrakech?

A fair question in Marrakech, because in almost all of the Medina, alcohol isn't sold. Here's where to find a real cocktail — and where a (delicious) mocktail is the way to go.

The Medina, an almost alcohol-free zone

Worth knowing before you go looking for a drink: in the Medina (the old town), the historic and traditional heart of Marrakech, alcohol is sold almost nowhere. Most cafés and restaurants don't serve it. Instead, you'll enjoy the famous mint tea, fresh juices and excellent mocktails (alcohol-free cocktails). A few rare rooftops and riads hold a licence, but they are the exception.

The good news: as soon as you leave the Medina, the options multiply. Head to the modern districts.

Guéliz, the cocktail-bar district

This is where contemporary Marrakech comes alive, right around HaltaKech. Guéliz is packed with cocktail bars and rooftops: creative mixology with local flavours (saffron, preserved lemon, mint), lively terraces and a relaxed vibe. Perfect for a pre-dinner drink, a few minutes from our suites. Standout spots include Baromètre, Morocco's first mixology bar (homemade infusions, hyper-local ingredients), and Kechmara, a trendy rooftop on rue de la Liberté with city views.

Hivernage, rooftops and grand hotels

The Hivernage district is the home of hotel bars, chic rooftops and nightlife. Comptoir Darna for a drink before the show, Teatro to keep the night going, or the grand hotels' rooftops for a cocktail with a view. Smart-casual dress code, and booking recommended.

The proud mocktail: Palais Ronsard

Proof that alcohol-free can be a treat: at Palais Ronsard, a beautifully made mocktail is included in the Day Pass package. Refreshing, elegant, and perfect by the pool.

A cocktail at sunset: Agafay

For something special, head to the Agafay desert: camps like Al Kamar are licensed and serve cocktails facing the dunes, at the magical sunset hour. The most spectacular place to raise a glass.
